Hand-woven blankets and throws from Morocco – Textiles with a history
Here you will find blankets and throws woven or knotted by hand according to Moroccan tradition. All pompom blankets in our collection are made by a small weaving mill in Agadir on traditional looms. Depending on size and pattern, making our wool or cotton throws often takes up to a week. The Handiras in our range, however, are knotted by hand and decorated in weeks of detailed work by Moroccan women in the Atlas Mountains. These so-called wedding blankets are several decades old and come from a wonderful Moroccan tradition, according to which all the women of a family gather together to make the blanket and pass on wisdom and advice about the marriage to the bride-to-be.
